This policy explains what RemoveGifBG ("we", "us") collects when you use this website, why, and for how long. It's written in plain language on purpose — if anything here is unclear, that's a bug in the policy, not a bug in your understanding.
When you upload a GIF, video, or image for background removal, the file is processed and the result made available for download. The source file, the processed result, and any preview generated from them are automatically and permanently deleted 1 hour after upload. This is enforced by an automated cleanup process — not a manual step someone might forget to do.
Processing itself runs on third-party cloud infrastructure (our GPU processing provider). That provider receives the file only for the time needed to run the background-removal model and does not retain it afterward as part of our normal workflow.
We do not keep a copy of your files beyond this window, and we do not keep any customer asset on file past the stated retention period without your explicit, separate consent.
RemoveGifBG has an optional, off-by-default feature that lets a customer flag a few low-confidence frames from their own finished job and manually correct them in a browser-based paint tool, in exchange for free credits. If you use this feature, the specific frames you choose to correct — and the corrected version you paint — are kept on file past the normal 1-hour window so they can be reviewed and, if approved, used to improve the underlying model. Nothing is retained this way unless you actively open the correction tool and submit a correction yourself; simply processing a file never triggers this.
If you verify an email address or add a payment method to unlock free credits, we store: the email address (to prevent the same free-trial bonus being claimed twice), a session identifier stored in a cookie on your device, and a running ledger of credits granted/spent/purchased tied to that identifier. If you add a card, we also store a one-way card fingerprint (not the card number) so the same physical card can't be used to claim the same one-time bonus under a different account — this fingerprint is provided to us by Stripe, not derived by us from raw card data.
This account data is retained for as long as your account exists, since it's needed for the credit ledger and plan/subscription state to function. You can ask us to delete it — see "Your rights" below.
Your IP address is used for two narrow, functional purposes: rate-limiting abusive upload volume, and recognizing that a free-tier bonus has already been claimed once from that address. Rate-limit records expire automatically within an hour. The free-tier claim record is kept longer, since its entire purpose is remembering that the bonus was already used — but it is never linked to your files' contents, never shared, and never used for tracking or advertising.
We use two cookies: a session identifier (so your account/credits work across visits) and a language preference. Neither is used for advertising or cross-site tracking, and we don't run any third-party analytics or ad trackers on this site.
All payment processing is handled directly by Stripe. We never receive or store your full card number — only what Stripe returns to us after a transaction (a customer/subscription reference and, for card-verification bonuses, a one-way fingerprint). Stripe's own privacy policy governs the data you give them directly during checkout.
If you verify an email address, we use it to send that verification link and, if you opt in, service-related messages (such as a low-credit reminder). We use it only for that — not for marketing lists, and not shared with anyone else.
Running this service requires a small number of infrastructure providers, each of whom only ever receives the minimum needed to do their specific job: a cloud GPU provider (runs the background-removal model on your file), a cloud hosting/storage provider (serves the site and temporarily hosts files during the 1-hour window), Stripe (payments), and an email delivery provider (sends verification/service emails). None of them are permitted to use your data for their own purposes.
You can ask us to tell you what account data we hold about you, correct it, or delete it entirely — whether you're exercising rights under GDPR (EU/UK) or CCPA (California), it's the same request and the same process. Since files are already deleted automatically within an hour, the main thing to delete on request is account/ledger data.
The fastest way is the "Delete account" button under your dashboard's Settings → Danger zone. It immediately cancels any active subscription and permanently erases your credit balance, purchase/usage history, saved email, and API keys — a real deletion, not a deactivation, with no separate copy kept by us afterward. If you'd rather we do it for you, reach out via the contact details below and we'll act on it directly.
If this policy changes in a way that meaningfully affects how your data is handled, we'll update the date at the top of this page.
