Twitch Emote FAQ

Do animated Twitch emotes need a transparent background?

Yes. Twitch displays emotes in chat on various backgrounds (dark mode, light mode, and custom themes). Without transparency, you'll see a solid colour box around the emote. RemoveGifBG removes the background from every frame of your animated GIF.

What size should I upload my emote at?

Upload at 112×112 pixels — that's the largest size Twitch accepts. Twitch automatically scales down to 56×56 and 28×28. Set the canvas to 112×112 in RemoveGifBG's options panel.

Can I make animated emotes if I'm not a Twitch Partner?

Animated emotes on Twitch require Affiliate or Partner status. If you're not there yet, you can still prepare your animated emotes now — they'll be ready to upload when you reach Affiliate.

How is this different from using Photoshop?

Photoshop requires you to mask every frame manually. A 30-frame animated emote means 30 separate selections. RemoveGifBG processes all frames in one upload and produces the right size automatically.
